News Letter June 2010.

Our topic this term of ‘Under the Sea’ and ‘Woodland Animals’ has, as expected, been very popular with all children wanting to add their artwork to the displays. We have had lengthy discussions around the types of sea creatures that can be found in the sea and all the different types of fish/mammals. Woodland Animals has led us to the Gruffalo story – of course, which the children never seem to tire of.
Next term our topic will be Nursery Rhymes where the activities will include building a giant wall for Humpty Dumpty, creating ‘Incy Wincy Spiders’ along with water spout, making black sheep and designing spinners to link with ‘Wind the Bobbin ‘.

Thanks to everyone who donated to or supported by attending, our Spring Fayre and table at the Spring Festival in Stapenhill gardens. We raised approximately £430 over the two events which is great to boost funds for replacing equipment and resources. We rely totally on our fundraising for these things and your support is always appreciated!!

As the weather is getting warmer now we will be spending more time outdoors. Can we please remind you to send a sunhat or cap with your child to pre-school (named) and apply sun cream before they arrive. Thank you.

We also introduce the idea of how words are formed  through oral blending and segmenting.  This is seperating each letter of a word into its sound and then saying the word.  E.g,  C-A-T -cat.  The older children seem to be pick this up very quickly, with younger children showing an interest and it is all a fantastic stepping stone on the way to reading.

The promotion of these skills are in line with the government literacy strategy ‘Letters and Sounds’.
If you want to know more please ask a member of staff or go on the government website www.standards.dfes.gov.uk and view it for yourselves.
