Policies:
Our policies explain to parents and others the way in which we do things. This is to make sure our Pre-school runs as safely and smoothly as possible. Policies are reviewed frequently by the management committee and then displayed on our notice board.

Child Protection Policy.
Statement of Intent.
We value children’s right to be safe, to play, to learn and develop skills to give them the very best start in life. Everyone involved in the Glebe Pre-school is committed to this statement.
Staff will record any injuries present on a child when they arrive at pre-school that is beyond the normal every day ‘scratch on the knee’.
Parents will be asked to sign this record and any explanation volunteered will also be recorded. Staff are not at liberty to ask for an explanation.
Any explanation offered by the child may also be recorded. Please don’t be alarmed by this procedure. It is a requirement by OFSTED and is the same for everyone. The notice board downstairs contains more information with regards the procedures taken to safeguard children, including the full version of our Child Protection Policy. Please take time to look.
It is important that children are collected by the named person(s). In the case of uncollected children we will do everything possible to contact the emergency contacts you provide and your child will be kept safe. However if we have not been able to contact any-one within half an hour of home time, it is our policy to inform Social Services who will instruct us on what to do next. It is advised that you keep our telephone number on you at all times and contact us if you are unavoidably detained. Please note that persistent lateness will incur added fees.

We at the Glebe Pre-school work hard to create a pleasant atmosphere for our children. Part of this is teaching them what acceptable behaviour is. We achieve this by offering plenty of praise and encouragement for the kind of behaviour we want to promote. Part of this learning involves helping them to resolve their own conflicts by learning to share etc. We always aim to help children make friends after a fall out. We never smack or threaten to smack, or use procedures aimed to cause humiliation. We have a time out table where a child can sit and talk through any challenging behaviour with an adult in order to help them understand the need for change. For many children this is a steep learning curve and our staff are sensitive and realistic in their expectations, treating all children consistently and fairly.
We at the Glebe recognise that society is rich and diverse and our aim is to reflect this is in our practice. Children absorb prejudices from the world around them. Our aim is to gently challenge any such emerging thoughts, helping them develop a healthy respect and understanding for others who are not like them-selves. We teach children that ‘different’ is not a bad thing and that all people are special. We welcome all people groups and encourage all children to learn and play together.
Inclusion is not just about cultural differences but it also incorporates developing an understanding about people who have varying abilities such as impaired sight and hearing etc.
We promote gender equality by challenging the idea for example that only boys can be train drivers etc.
All of our policies and procedures are in a booklet on our notice board downstairs. Please feel free to browse at your leisure. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions if you have any concerns or if you feel we can improve on our practices etc.

1. Discuss your concern with the supervisor or any other member of staff if supervisor is not available. Your concerns will be treated with respect. Most concerns will hopefully be resolved at this stage.
2. If you feel more needs to be done, make a formal complaint in writing to pre-school. Pre-school will record your complaint and inform you of any actions to be taken within 28 days of receiving your written complaint.
3. If you are still not entirely satisfied, contact Ofsted, the government body responsible for the standards set in all early years provision.

Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage is based around four themes:
• A Unique Child
• Positive Relationships
• Enabling Environments
• Learning and Development
A Unique Child recognises that every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Positive Relationships describes how children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
Enabling Environments explains that the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
Learning and Development recognises that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and that all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.
This approach ensures that the EYFS meets the overarching aim of improving outcomes and reflects that it is every child’s right to grow up safe; healthy; enjoying and achieving; making a positive contribution; and with economic well-being.
Further information can be found on the DfES website where you can download the Early Years Foundation Stage framework – www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/eyfs
